We have provided full studio and technical support to all 21 series of Remarkable Television’s BBC One quiz show, Pointless.
Pointless and Pointless Celebrities have returned to our 7,550 sq. ft. studio, Elstree 8, for the recording of their 22nd and 12th series respectively.
We have facilitated the show, as well as the Celebrity version, since its very first series. This included its landmark 1000th episode in April 2016, with total recordings now reaching over 1,350.
“BBC Studioworks and Pointless have been together since the very first series. Pointless keeps coming back because of the honesty, dedication and trusted relationship we have with the Studioworks team,” John Ryan, Executive Producer.
Pointless records using an eight camera set-up, comprising a 15ft jib and seven pedestal cameras. Our sound and lighting galleries play a pivotal role in helping build the onset tension at key points in the show’s rounds, such as casting the spotlight on the countdown column to reveal when the contestants find a coveted ‘pointless’ answer.
During their time with us, the Pointless production team adapt the ancillary facilities, which comprise production offices, green rooms and dressing rooms, to suit the show’s bespoke needs. The ‘questions room’, where the question setters and verifiers come together, is housed in a highly secretive dressing room.
First airing in 2009, Pointless is a ratings success in its teatime weekday BBC One slot and celebrity special weekend shows. Hosted by Alexander Armstrong, and his ‘Pointless friend’, Richard Osman, the quiz show sees four couples battle it out by answering general knowledge questions with the aim of finding the most obscure answers to score low and win big.
